Heading the threat of a N2 billion lawsuit, gospel artist Mercy Chinwo is taking singer Obidiz to task for using her name and image in secular music audio and video. On February 10, 2023, Obidiz released a commercial for a song titled “Mercy Chinwo,” featuring her picture as the cover image.
In response, Chinwo’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, sent a letter dated March 23 to Obidiz Lawson, demanding the immediate removal of the music audio and video from all music digital platforms. The letter expressed shock at the release of a song containing disparaging and derogatory lyrics using Chinwo’s name.
The attorney’s letter instructed Obidiz to promptly comply with the demands, threatening legal action and damages of N2,000,000,000.00 (Two Billion Naira) should he fail to do so. The gospel singer’s legal representatives are prepared to pursue the matter in court if necessary.
